I worked with artist Julia Alderman (MICA) on their latest animation 'Perditus', following 3 children as they perform an ancient ritual at the secret 'Offering Tree' while under the watchful eyes of 'The Others'.
I used vocal recordings, sang by musician Annie Chown, as the basis for the score. I warped these using tremolo, stretching, delays and other techniques to turn them into different textures and pulses throughout. I mainly combined these with extended cello techniques (scrapes, taps, harmonic glissandi, etc). The aim was to create an unsettling but organic soundscape, inspired by soundtracks like those from 'Blood Hive' and 'Arrival'.
